May I Have This Dance? (Wedding Post, Part 4)

My first born son got married.
I poured my heart into this kid and prayed a lot that God would take my weak ability to love…
Pour His love over it, and make it something beautiful.
He did.
He turned out spectacular.
I love him more than words could ever begin to express.

I almost forgot about the Mother-Son dance until he came to get me.

The music started.

“Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion –
Is nothing new
Flashback – warm nights –
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after –

Sometimes you picture me –
I’m walking too far ahead
You’re calling to me, I can’t hear
What you’ve said –
Then you say – go slow –
I fall behind –
The second hand unwinds”

“If you’re lost you can look – and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you – I’ll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows – you’re wondering
If I’m OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time -” ….Cyndi Lauper

He’s my son. He’s a man.

He married well.

He loves well.

And the dance continues.

He danced into the life of a beautiful woman, his bride.

And I can look back and feel so blessed for the years he lived under my roof, and for the “suitcase of memories” we share.

I caught him many times.

That’s what mom’s do.

We catch our children when they fall and tell them it’s going to be ok.

One of my greatest joys in this life to this point is watching my son, now a man, life his life.

  1. Love it when God writes the story. It’s so beautiful! You have always been an amazing mama and I know that all you’ve poured into Nicko has helped form the amazing man he is today. Love you!

  2. Congrats to your family. You can SO feel the love through every post you write. You really have a way with words. May God continue to bless you and your family. You are one family/lady I will be looking forward to meeting in Heaven!
