EVERYONE KEEPS SMILING REALLY BIG AND TELLING ME I’M GOING HOME!
SO I GUESS I’LL SMILE REAL BIG TOO!
That’s the news on the street, or at least the news in the hall of the PICU! Mattie’s getting ready to go home!
We have an anticipated discharge date. I stress the word “anticipated” because we are not going to panic if it’s off by a day or two or three.
The plan is to have a discharge planning meeting TOMORROW with all the powers that be who are responsible for Mattie’s care. Following that meeting we will meet with the home health service to be trained on the ventilator. Thursday home health will come inspect the house to see where Mattie will be and let us know if there is anything additional we need to have in place.
Thursday night start a weekend project of painting, cleaning and finishing the bedroom rearranging.
Over the next week or so we will continue getting very familiar with the ventilator and asking A LOT OF QUESTIONS.
Before discharge we will spend 24 hours with Mattie in a parent room- kind of like a honeymoon- only not!
THEN THE BOY COMES HOME! The soonest would be Friday September 23rd, but more than likely it will be early the following week, as we have been told they don’t like to send kiddos home on a weekend.
I held my breath the whole time I wrote that. OK. Time to breath. Time to get busy.
AND SOON TIME FOR THE BIGGEST CELEBRATION WE’VE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME!
Pray. Please. Keep. Praying. We are so ready for this!
