Once there was a girl. She was lonely and frightened, and she had closed her heart to protect herself from pain.
Once there was a momma who had said yes to Love. She opened her heart to a little girl who was so wounded that she pushed Love away. The momma was human, so she was hurt and sad and confused. She felt rejected. She wanted to give up on Love, but the One who Loved her the most wouldn’t let her quit. The One whose Love is perfect reminded her that she too was once lonely and frightened and bound by pain. The One whose Love is perfect reminded her that He didn’t give up on her. He Loved when she pushed Love away. He pursued when she hid her face from Love.
The One whose Love is perfect taught the momma how to Love a little girl who was afraid of Love.
And the little girl came alive right before her very eyes and learned how to Love and be Loved.
Soft eyes that are alive with hope.
Peace and Tenderness.
Joy and Freedom.
Able to rest, able to trust, able to love.
Quirky, spunky Emma. Silly, whimsical girl who makes me smile.
Bursting with the promise of a destiny restored.
Oh Emma, we’ve come so far, you and I.
We’re learning so much about Love and about each other.
You are a reminder to me every day of the love and faithfulness of my Father.
He loves us both so much, so much that He chose you to be my daughter and me to be your momma.
