Brrrrrr

In case you wondered. It is COLD in Ukraine in February. It was 5 below yesterday and dropping, according to Derek. We’re as prepared as can be with great coats, books, REALLY expensive long underwear, and great merino wool socks.

But nothing can prepare you for THIS! The Russians are holding back the natural gas supply to Ukraine. We’ve been told that the region has enough gas supply to last til April. While Derek and Renee were there, they had a 2 day limit for use of hot water. We found out yesterday that there are no “hot water” days now. This means lots of boiling water and no real showers while we are there.

And you can PRAY!

  2. I had heard that the natural gas supply was going to effect much of eastern europe. My husband and I worked as TESOL teachers in the mountains in Romania (we actually met there….awww). Unless you owned a car or cart there was no public transportation so we walked everywhere…sometimes in -25 C (about -17 F). We also lived in a town where we had hot water every other day all year. There was also a national “turning on the heat” day – basically you froze your butt off until that special holiday.

We loved our jackets, hats, scarfs, gloves and boots and large pots for heating water. We will be thinking and praying for you.
